Privacy Policy

EduConnect is operated by Birr Tech. This policy explains what we collect across EduConnect and its two platforms, BirrClass (/class) and BirrSchool (/school), and why.

1. The short version

We collect the minimum data needed to run a working education platform: your account details, the content you create or enroll in, and the records generated as you use the service. We store it on our Lightbase backend, we never sell it, and we run no advertising trackers of any kind — on this site or inside the apps.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data: name, email address, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), role (learner, educator, organization, school, admin) and your chosen display information.
  • Learning and school records: enrollments, class attendance, lesson progress, submissions and grades, certificates issued, school listings, programs, admissions applications and their reference numbers, results released through the results checker, reviews you submit.
  • Payments: transaction records processed via BirrPay — amounts, statuses, receipts and payout ledgers. Full card or mobile-money credentials are handled by BirrPay's processor and never touch EduConnect servers.
  • Support correspondence: messages you send to support@birrtech.dev, partners@birrtech.dev or press@birrtech.dev, kept for as long as needed to resolve your request.
  • Operational logs: short-lived security logs (sign-ins, failed attempts) used to protect accounts and detect abuse.

3. Where your data lives — the Lightbase backend

Dynamic data for both platforms (accounts, courses, classes, schools, admissions, results) is stored on the Lightbase data plane operated by Birr Tech. Data is encrypted in transit, access is least-privilege and audited, and public web pages are served prebuilt from the static tier so browsing this site does not create personal-data events. Public marketing pages on this site are fully static and do not collect anything about you.

4. Cookies and localStorage

We use only strictly necessary browser storage. When you sign in, a signed session token is stored in your browser's localStorage so the apps can keep you signed in and personalize your dashboard. We also store a small number of interface preferences (for example, your last chosen view). We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking scripts. 5. Why we process your data

  • to provide the service: accounts, live classes, courses, gradebooks, certificates, school websites, admissions and results checking;
  • to process payments and payouts accurately through BirrPay, and keep ledgers you and your school can trust;
  • to keep the platforms secure: detecting fraud, credential abuse and attempts to manipulate reviews, results or certificates;
  • to support you when you contact us;
  • to meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records for transactions.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone. Ever.

6. Who we share data with

  • You control visibility: educators and organizations see the records of learners enrolled with them; schools see the admissions, results and website content entrusted to them; other users only see what you make public (for example, your public profile or review display name).
  • Processors: BirrPay (payments) and our infrastructure providers (hosting, email delivery), each processing only what is needed to deliver their function.
  • Law: where a valid legal request requires it, and only the minimum we must provide.

7. Retention

Account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account we remove or anonymize your personal data within 90 days, except records we must keep for legitimate purposes: financial transaction records (as required by tax law), issued certificates and their verification records (so a certificate stays verifiable), and published school content for which your school remains the data controller.

8. Security

Passwords are stored only as salted hashes; session tokens are signed and expire; transport is TLS-encrypted; access to production data is least-privilege and audited. No system is perfect, but we design so that a single failure does not expose learner records, and we will notify affected users promptly if a breach affects them.

9. Your rights

You may, at any time and free of charge:

  • access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate data (most of it directly in your dashboard);
  • delete your account and associated personal data, subject to the retention exceptions above;
  • export your data in a portable format;
  • object to or restrict processing where the law allows, and withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.

To exercise any right, email support@birrtech.dev from your account address. We respond within 30 days.

10. Children

Learners under 13 may use the platforms only through an account held by their parent, guardian or school, and schools remain responsible for obtaining guardian consent for the minors they enroll. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date; material changes will be announced in the affected platform before they take effect.
